Spring into action with us!

Spring into Action with the Cardinal Legion

June 01, 2021 – Cardinal, Ontario

The Royal Canadian Legion, Cardinal Branch is pleased to announce:  "Spring into Action.” Hosted with kind support from the Brockville Rifles, the virtual event welcomes participation from all individuals. Participants can sign up on their own, or as a family, group, or team of up to 4 people, and are encouraged to take part in the way they feel most comfortable. Activities can be grouped together or spaced out over the duration of the event that will run until August 31st, 2021.

This unique event encourages participants not only to get involved but also to encourage their friends, neighbors, and colleagues to get motivated to do the same.  Share photos or video clips of your participation and tag a friend - the more the merrier! A little friendly competition only promises to make the event all the more fun!

Suggested activities include (but are not limited to) running, walking, biking (indoors or outdoors), swimming, rucking, hiking or walking, virtual exercise classes, walking your baby in a stroller, but also includes more civic-minded items such as doing something for someone you care about or checking on a neighbor or supporting mental health by meeting weekly to check-in and talk.  You can be as active as you would like.  You might even choose to support the event monetarily without the physical component -- and that's perfectly fine too!

Participants are wholeheartedly encouraged to share photos and video clips of their person, their team or their family group in pursuit of their activities.  Post your photos and tag a few friends and challenge them to meet or beat your funds raised, or your accomplishments or activity pursued.  A little friendly competition never hurt anybody and only serves to make the event more fun for everyone!

This virtual event is a way for you to spring into action as we head into Summer; participate, get a medal and have fun, all while supporting a great cause.  All proceeds from this event will go to the Royal Canadian Legion, Cardinal Branch and help to support the branch and the programs that it hosts and supports.

The Royal Canadian Legion’s mission is to serve Veterans, including serving military and RCMP members and their families, to promote Remembrance, and to serve our communities and country.  The Royal Canadian Legion was founded by Veterans and for Veterans.  We advocate for the care and benefits of all who served Canada regardless of when or where they served.  The Legion also provides representation and assistance to Veterans, including currently serving Canadian Armed Forces and RCMP, and their families, and access to our services is available to them at no cost, whether or not they are Legion members.  The Legion helps thousands of Veterans each year and makes significant positive changes in their lives.

RCL provides services and supports to such programs as:

The Perley and Rideau Veterans’ Health Centre

Operation Leave the Streets Behind (Homeless Veterans Assistance)

Homeless Veterans Fund

Youth Education and Sports Programs

Seniors Programs

Community Programs

The Brockville Rifles are a reserve infantry regiment of the Canadian Army, located in Brockville, Ontario.  The Brockville Rifles is one of 15 reserve units of 33 Canadian Brigade Group, a Reserve Brigade located in Eastern and Northern Ontario.

As a Primary Reserve Unit, The Brockville Rifles train part-time.  The regiment provides individual augmentees to support domestic and international operations conducted by soldiers in support of the Canadian Army missions.

“The Brockville Rifles are honoured to be assisting the Legion (Cardinal Branch) in a fundraising activity for our veteran community. During Covid times, we want to encourage all members of our community to get outside and get active, for a good cause. We wish all participants the best of luck while keeping safe and adhering to Covid measures.”

Kyle Johnston, Recruiting Officer, The Brockville Rifles

This past year has been an incredible strain on our friends, neighbors, and colleagues. We have been forced to re-think just about everything.  As a community service organization, our fundraising efforts have been stalled but programs to assist our veterans, our seniors and our community are still ongoing and perhaps needed more than ever.  We welcome the opportunity to invite our community to get out and get involved in whatever way suits them best. The more the merrier.

We are grateful for the support of the Brockville Rifles in helping us to raise awareness of the Legion and the programs that it supports.

Tammy Wilson, Secretary, Public Relations, Royal Canadian Legion, Branch #105 Cardinal
